That's why I wouldn't use the term "Documents". Home works very well for
this and it certainly makes sense to have a Desktop in your Home. The
Home icon on your Desktop could be argued.

File selectors will default to whatever we want to default them to.
Legacy file selectors can be fixed, certainly easier than legacy
applications writing to $HOME. :) And in the case of a "broken" file
selector, a simple workaround exists: Clicking on the Desktop folder
before saving the file.
