Re: [Banshee-List] Can't scan music library

Sorry, logged off for the night and I thought someone else might have
answered.

Banshee's database is ~/.config/banshee-1/banshee.db. If you're happy to
delete it then do that.

To try and repair the database (potentially recovering play lists, play
counts, ratings and other data), see the bottom of the Banshee FAQ:
http://banshee.fm/support/faq/. You might need to install the sqlite3
command separately - check your distro for which package provides it
(I'm assuming an Ubuntu/Debian derivative, if you're using Synaptic)

Will do. Where would I find the database so I can delete it? I just did
a complete removal of banshee in synaptic and the same error flashes up.

Yeah, a symlink loop would cause it. Banshee should really watch out for
that. Please check Bugzilla and report a bug if it isn't in there
already.

As for the error, it looks like your database got corrupt (possibly from
killing it when running the "banshee --debug" command?). You might be
able to recover it (I once saw instruction for doing a dump and restore)
but it might need deleting so that Banshee recreates it from scratch.

And now, Banshee won't start at all, it throws up this error:

Just to be clear the symlinked folder wasn't just in /home to link to

I got this:

I deleted the symlink folder 'Music' from within /PureSilk/Music

What do you get if you run:

ls -l /media/PureSilk/
ls -l /media/PureSilk/Music/

?

It looks like it is looping and Banshee isn't spotting it. Ideally it
would (which'd be the fix) but some more info on the specifics of
your
file system and structure might help.

Symlinks by themselves shouldn't cause a problem - I've got an SSD
with
/home and /root on, so my music is on a HDD under /mnt/media/Music
and
~/Music is a symlink to that, which it rescans without a problem.

I just realised I ran it then whilst the music folder was set to
Music2,
I put everything back to the state it was in when the loop was
happening
and I get this:

http://pastebin.com/YZqfNX5Q

And when Banshee opened I radn 'Rescan music library' so
hopefully the
debugger will reveal the problem..

OK, here we go, Banshee opens and stalls at this point:

That means that Banshee is already open and running. Sorry I
wasn't
clear. Close Banshee, start it with "banshee --debug" and post
what you
get then!

I suspect there's a loop happening somewhere that Banshee and
Noise
aren't detecting, but Rhythmbox is detecting and breaking out of
(although I wouldn't expect that to happen much on an NTFS file
system).

Hi, this is all I get:

$ banshee --debug

I just tried renaming my music folder from
/media/NTFSDrive/Music to
/media/NTFSDrive/Music2, set that as my music folder in
Banshee and
Banshee could scan it without any problems - however this doesn't
seem a
good solution as I use so many other progs with that folder in
linux
/elementary luna) and windows

Can you post a log of what you get when you run "banshee

It'd
help people work out what the app thinks it is doing! It might
be best
to post it on pastebin or somewhere and link to it.

In either Noise or in Banshee, whenever I attempt to rescan my
music
library, it keeps going round in circles, linking the same
small
batch of
albums over and over again until the same tracks are in
there 20
times or

crazy. All
I can find by googling is some advice as to plugins which

duplicate
songs but that would be useless! The library scans just keep
going
round in
a loop and will never get to the end.
Help!
I should add that both Banshee and Noise are looping with the
same
small
batch of files from my music folder. Rhythmbox however is
scanning
normally
and seems to far not to be affected.
