Ups, true. At least you can plug a ffmpeg plugin into gstreamer. But
the video backend shouldn't be the problem with banshee, because
gstreamer works quite well. The frontend could be improved, yes.

Otherwise it's possible to write an extension that opens a file in the
video library with an external program (e.g. MPlayer)
