I've been watching this thread for the past few days, and I've also been 
feeling some of these performance hits in Maverick with Daily Banshee.

Updating SQLite with the aforementioned PPA is... like night and day. 
Banshee still pegs one of my CPU threads whenever it's about to change 
tracks, but it does it without any noticeable delay now. No regressions 
to note as of yet.
