Actually, maybe I was a bit premature. I was having a quick look around the
Mirage site, checked out the support tickets and saw issue 19 ("Playlist
rewriting is unintuitive behaviour" -
http://code.google.com/p/banshee-unofficial-plugins/issues/detail?id=19),
then I noticed that it was rewriting the end of my playlist as it went. It
doesn't seem to replace all of the list (at least not all the time) but it
does seem to remove some of your tracks to make the "upcoming songs"-type
list more of a "potentially upcoming songs, if I don't decide to remove them
first...do ya feel lucky? well do ya?"

Still, it's a good plugin, just not quite a party shuffle the same as
iTunes, Amarok and others have :)
