I agree totally, and have found... good news!
From Gnome Desktop News, Session Manager 2.16.2 and 2.17.2:
* Set http_proxy environment variable based on GNOME settings
for legacy apps (Ray Strode)
Since Mono 1.2 respects http_proxy in the 2.0 profile, Banshee will
use Gnome's settings automatically.
