It is, if you target things like consistency, user-expectations and 
learning curves. If you are in doubt how to implement it, and other 
apps handle that in a rational way, why not copy their behaviour? If 
you are absolutely sure, that option A is the only way to go, another 
app using option B shouldn't stop you from choosing option A (after 
having thought about it for a second maybe).
