Re: [anjuta-devel] Anjuta and GSoC2013

I patched my first bug today
(https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=698036), and seem to have
learned a lot. I'm waiting for reviews on it.

Thank, I have reviewed it and I have asked a few questions :)

I checked it out, an turns out that the UI has been made as .glade
files, which have been coded with pyGTK (The entire application is
Python based).

I think the UI will have to be modified to be used in Anjuta, but if the code handling the database is separated, I think it can be used in Anjuta even if it's written in Python.

Many programmers would like to be able to keep a todo list from the
tool they use the most frequently (i.e. the IDE itself) rather than
opening an other application.
I can still work on something else which is more useful for Anjuta.

I think there are things more important but it's only my own idea. This is your project so it's up to you to decide. If you write a working todo list plugin, there is no reason to discard it. We had one before and as it's a plugin if people don't want it they can disable it.

I understand. Instead of having one single idea, can I keep my project
a collection of different feature-improvement ideas? (As in roadmap
plans like multiple views in the docman, code refactoring, code
folding etc. can be integrated into one single SoC application, and
after completion, it will be a big step ahead for Anjuta)

No, I think you need to keep only one idea for GSoC application. Anyway, I think adding only multiple view in the document manager is something which is already enough for GSoC. If you do it really fast, it's quite easy to find additional work: other improvement on the documentation manager, code optimization, writing documentation...

I think the priority is to have an idea that you find interesting and that is well defined. If you want to work on other parts in Anjuta, you are more than welcome to do it after GSoC.

Also, can you please elaborate the bugzilla integration idea a bit?

I haven't thought that much about this. I think, it would need at least a pane will all open bugs where you can read message and apply a patch with a few clocks. On the other side, it should be possible to select several patches and send them to bugzilla.

And, should I start working on an application?

Sure, you have contacted us quite advance, it is a very good point but you have to continue.

(That's too many questions to ask)

No problem, ask as many questions as you want, it's not limited.

Regards,

Sébastien
