I have found why it happens and it's something that I have completely 
missed. These widgets are created and docked before loading the layout. 
They are replaced by the new layout and are kept in hidden parent 
widgets not displayed on the screen anymore.

When you want to show them again, you have to dock them again in the 
current widgets tree you can't only show them at their current position.

I have pushed a patch in GDL that should fix this issue. Now it's should 
be usable.

There is still an issue with hidden widgets which are not saved. The 
View menu should work and hide or show the corresponding widget but if 
you close your project all widgets should be displayed again. There are 
some placeholder widgets which appear from time to time. I think I will 
be able to fix it this week end.
