Here's my suggestion:

When someone posts what you see as a dumb question to the list,
something you're tempted to flame, just ignore it. My guess is that
others who can answer these simple little questions will start jumping
in. (I know I love answering the dumb little questions when I can, but
usually by the time my asynchronous list usage catches up with them,
you've already jumped in.)
