I disagree, although I do not know how strongly.
IMHO, libxml should not contain any transmission protocol code (HTTP
or FTP) at all. It is wrong from an architectural point of view,
because it mixes different functionality in the same software unit,
and it is wrong from a practical point of view, because it the nano
code is rather meager (and has always been insufficient for my
purposes, so I use libcurl in combination with libxml.)
Well it has always been sufficient for all the XML, HTML and XSLT
processing I needed. And without it xmllint and xsltproc would be quite
useless. So basic support will remain, that's sure at least.
