No, just as follows:

    CFLAGS="$RPM_OPT_FLAGS" ./configure --prefix=%prefix \
                                        --sysconfdir=%sysconfdir \
                                        --mandir=%{_mandir} \
                                    --libdir=%_libdir
    make
    make check

where CFLAGS=-O2 -march=i486 -mcpu=i686

And we must regenerate the auto* stuff to make it build on some new
machines:

    autoreconf --force --install
