WOOHOO! finally got it to compile (with MINGW) using nothing but ./configure
and make with the version supplied by Elizabeth.

This one should compile out of the box on MSYS:

It used the then-current CVS of libtool which has undergone a lot of
recent modifications to support MSYS (and MinGW sans cygwin). Indeed,
I suggest you pull down the latest CVS libtool and libtoolize it.
