Re: [xml] compiling libxml2-devel on solaris

Daniel, Fabrice,

thanks for the prompt replies. I have forwarded your response to the
sysadmin ...

admitting my ignorance: -devel seems to be a rpm concept, right? is there a
ressource detailing more information on this (why do you need it, what is it
for, etc.)?

sorry, this is probably off-topic. thanks anyway,
Jakob.

Hi,

I am new to this list.

I have developped an application using libxml2 (from inside php) on
Linux.
Now, the application needs to be ported to the production machine

on this
machine.

Your sysadmin should learn to read an FAQ :-)

Apparently, there are two packages, libxml2 and libxml2-devel, which
must both

 1/ Notice the word "package"
2/ libxml2 is not packaged for Solaris (yet ...).
3/ You will have to recompile from the sources.

Simply grab the libxml2 tar.gz (ftp://xmlsoft.org/), unpack and run
  ./configure --prefix=...
  make
  make install

And no there is no libxml2-devel tarball because the libxml2 and
libxml2-devel
packages are generated from the single libxml2 tarball.
