Right, I was unclear. What I meant is that games are going to keep including this feature via whatever means are necessary. So realistically our options are either to give them a less-broken means of doing this, or else the status quo.

I don't see how this proposal helps, then: either games have to be
updated to care about the new _NET_WM_STATE value, or they have to be
updated to not set the user's resolution.
