Re: [Vala] vala on a mac

I'm also very interested in having gtk3 running happy on osx. I wrote a home pkgsystem named slpm
(hg.youterm.com/slpm) which can compile gtk3 from last releases. But i was unable to get anything but a white
window in osx. I have yo yest again on latest release.

Nerverteless. Using slpm you will be able to get all deps for your dmg freshly and ready with a single
command. And some waiting time.. To compile :P

I then build gtk2 natively in osx and got a working version but there are some damagedarea issues.. Like
changing tab and not getting contents upfated til you resize the window.

I woulf love to have kinetic scrolling support.. But looks like theres a serious bug in event system which
prevents this to be implemented without hacks.

I love gtk. But outside xorg its a bit buggy. Oh well.. On w32 i have no idea the state.. I dont know how the
wayland backend works if its stable enought or what..

I understand this is not the right mailing list to talk about it. But i think gtk need some people to work on
it. And certainly im absolutely out of time to get more projects.

wow. This is also very helpful. Thanks for this.

Do you happen to know if GTK3 will be maintained on OSX? Are the bugs
you mention ones that can be squashed? It would be great to eventually
put together a workflow that is completely cross-compilable using vala.

I'm sure there will be some differences with GTK+3, but this gives me a
great place to starts.

fyi GTK 3 is still pretty buggy on OS X, with rendering bugs, crashes
etc, but it does work somewhat, and each new bug opened in bugzilla is
a win for all of us who are determined to stick with GTK for UI on OS
X as well :)

For integrating with the menu, dock etc, and also .app packaging, you
can find some stuff over here:
