Both gimp and photoshop share exactly the same target group.

Gimp is the only oss application i know of that uses CSDI and ulilizes
that model in order to suit the needs of professionals. We're talking
about UI and usability here, please do not talk about CMYK etc.
functionality. Besides, this project is still evolving.
The problem here is that the HiG encourages SDI/MDI as the ultimate
solution which for professional 2D graphics applications in general is
wrong.
