This actually showcases the problem with close buttons. In this dialog there
are already 4 buttons. Adding a close button would make it unneccessarily
wide and odd looking. However as you have pointed out, close buttons become
something a user becomes accustom to, so the lack of its presence is
annoying to them. It would be better in this case if users became more
accustom to using the window border buttons that they frequently use for
main windows, imo.
