I'm still using ubuntu 9.10 with ryhtmbox 0.12.5. Hopefully in ubuntu 4.11 will be the 0.12.7 release of rythmbox included.

You could use the external program mp3gain:

find . -iname '*.mp3' -execdir mp3gain -a -k "{}" + &

if you run this in your music directory, everything should be on one
volume level (however, it might take a while)
