I can confirm that gtk+ 2.8.3 fixes this problem.  Thankfully, because I missed my rhythmbox :-(.

There is a bug in GTK 2.8.11/2.8.1, which Rhythmbox triggers causing a
crash on start-up. It works fine with 2.8.0, and it's fixed in GTK cvs.
