Well, GStreamer 0.6.4 was supposed to (mostly) fix the MP3 typefinding problems: http://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=94113 If it doesn't work for you, please reopen this bug, and provide pointers to your MP3 files that fail to work. But as a temporary workaround, as of patch-206 I've implemented a GConf key: /apps/rhythmbox/use_autoplugger I hope that helps.
