Re: GNOME 3.0 Hackfest + 1 day conference (in Asia)

Please find below the options for consideration and let us know which options work better for the release team.

1) Late March 2011 starting from 30th March to 2nd April
2) Early April 2011 starting from 6th April to 9th April
3) mid April 2011 starting from 13rd April to 16th April
4) late April 2011 starting from 20 April to 23th April
5) late April 2011 starting from 27 April to 30 April

You may also suggest other dates that work for the release team so we can consider as well.  Thanks!

Dear release team,

I'm relaunching the discussion as it would be really beneficial to know what best date works for you guys. I guess I don't need to explain the benefits of having a hackfest for your team or explain you what you should be doing during that time: this is a time for you, you should know if it makes sense or not, and when it works better for your team.

We're also intending to have people from the documentation and marketing team with whom we have also been in touch since September.

Now the benefits of having 1 day of open-to-the-public conference just after that hackfest and around GNOME release date allows us:
- To save on traveling expenses by combining two events
- Have the best possible people to represent GNOME 3 to the public
- Explain what is GNOME 3 and answer public questions about it
- Encourage people in one location to use and abuse it
- Give local developer the opportunity to discuss about (using) GNOME technologies with people who master them
- Have a public event for the launch

There are surely other benefits, but those were some which came to my mind.

Considering we have about 4 months left to prepare we would like to confirm a date that works for people and we need to get this feedback from you.

So looking forward to reading from you soon.

Thank you.

Fred

I think it would be very valuable to have some representative from
the release team at this launch event, if possible. I think any
travel subsidy forms from anyone on the release team (and other
teams where it would be good to have representation) would be very
seriously considered.

combine the GNOME 3.0 launch with the 4th edition of GNOME.Asia by

The idea is to get all the work that needs to be done by each team
(release, doc, marketing) finalized before or during the release by
getting everybody in the same place, assuming there is a benefit of
doing so.

What do you think would be the concrete benefit? The benefit that you
want to create highly influences the actual date that fits best.

Whatever value could be had by getting people together in-person
probably requires some joint discussion, not just with the release
team but with other teams who are planning to attend. It seems there
should be plenty of opportunities to engage in some collaborative and
fun work. So we would appreciate any input. If people from the
release team have any feedback that could influence when the dates
should be set, let us know.
