Thanks Xavier and Waldemar for your quick responses. My example with the
pregnant woman was maybe not good and I see your points.
For some tasks I don't want to assign a resource. I just want to
specify how long that task will take in a real time (number of days or
hours) indepentently of any other parameters. The solution thus seems
to be to define the calendar to be 24h/day 7days/week working hours.
For example if I have a chemcial process that takes a week then I
would like just to specify that it is a 7 day long task.
I just tested again now that I thought how it works. I modified the
calendar to have every day working time from 00:00-23:59 (does this
lose a minute a minute per day?). I then created a task with a fixed
duration of 7 days. The task became a little over 2 days long in the
Gantt chart. I did not assign a resource, but this should not affect the
duration. (As the manual says "Fixed duration - the fixed duration
option is used when the duration of a task will take a fixed amount of
time regardless of the resources devoted to achieving it.")
It seems as if 1day = 8h in any case. How is this motivated? For my
chemical process time runs every minute every day (the same goes for the
pregnant woman as we agreed ;-) ). How do I specify this?
Regards,
Björn
