Re: [orca-list] All about Orca

Hello,

I'm trying to answer inline.

1. I was wondering how to copy and paste using orca in Linux?

If you are working in a libreoffice writer or calc or in a text editor or similar app you can use shift+arrow keys for text selection. and then ctrl+c to copy and ctrl+x to cut.

If you are reading the web, you have to switch into browse mode by pressing orca+a. Orca is either insert or capslock key depending on your config. You can the use shift+arrow keys to select and ctrl+c to copy.

If you wish to copy text from a dialogbox or a terminal window, you have to review by using so called flat review and then there are unbound commands in the orca preferences dialog, on the keybindings tab and these are copy to clipboard and append to clipboard.

2. How can I connect my focus 40 to my VM? (I am using Ubuntu)

If you are using virtualbox then you need to open up configuration for the virtual machine and activate passthrough for the braille display USB device in the USB settings. If you are using something else, I don't know the details my-self but it would be very similar I think.

On the linux VM you should have brltty running. Distros such as debian, arch linux, ubuntu and fedora have this preconfigured I think.

3. I like to use Jaws to write my assignments. I was wondering is there a
way I can copy the text from the termal terminal and somehow put it into the
word doc that I have on my regular machine?
This depends on your virtualization software you are running. When virtual guest support is installed or activated on the virtualized system, clipboard operations should work seamlessly.
4. How can I read a word at a time after I executes a command in the
terminal?
You can use your numpad keys to control a functionality called flat review. Numpad 7 reads previous line, numpad 9 reads next line, numpad 8 reads current line. Numpad 4 reads previous word, numpad 6 reads next word and numpad 5 reads current word. Numpad 1 reads previous character, numpad 3 reads next character and numpad 2 reads current character. You may need to disable your windows screen reader if the keys are not passing throught to the VM as windows screen readers tend to use these keys for their commands.
5. How can I let Orca to read the text from the terminal back to me again?
When I type a command and hit enter, Orca reads to me only once. I am not
sure how to make Orca repeated to me.
You can use flat review for this as well.
Many help will be appreciated!
Amy

Greetings

Peter
