Re: [orca-list] Fedora 34, totally distorted speech in live CD

Hello,

New things in gnome 40 I've recognized so far is that GDM login screen is again accessible with orca. The fix is known but it's finally shipped to the end users after almost whole year of waiting.

Gnome settings keyboard navigation is still broken since gnome 2.28.

Perhaps under the hood there are some tweaks I haven't recognized so far but all in all experience is the same and the feeling where accessibility is not progressing remains.

And yes speakup can be used to install arch although it requires a bit of spare time and perhaps a bit of patience too.

Greetings

Peter

My understanding is that Speakup can be used on an Arch installation image. Orca runs well once the required packages are installed.

Hi Jason,

Umm, no, trying to install Arch Linux is way beyond my capabilities. Besides my Braille display doesn't want to work in a VM, so I have speech only, and thus an Arch installation, from what I understand, won't work accessibly anyway, and I have no sighted assistance.

Hi there!

When downloading the Fedora 34 beta image and starting it in a VM, then pressing Super+Alt+S to start Orca, speech is totally distorted and in essence does not work. I can shut down Orca again, and the distorted noises stop, but in essence: Unlike the Fedora 33 live CD, the 34 live CD is totally broken what Orca is concerned.

Two questions:

a) Is this known? I think I saw it mentioned somewhere that it was, and that it was hoped to be fixed, but I cannot find that reference any more. Also, Redhat's Bugzilla is not helping. Is there a bug on file for this, and where can I find it if that's the case?

2. Is there a way to install Fedora 34 without installing that live image first, and is there a chance the sound will work, then?

The reason I am asking about the beta: I would like to try out GNOME 40.

Thanks!

Marco
