That's why SSD drives got invented, but for proper use of them you either
need two of them able to run in a computer at one time or a computer
capable of booting off a flash drive in addition to the SSD. That makes
removing drives so much neater and easier. With ide or large sata drives,
you could wake the black widow living in your computer and she might not
like you disrupting her beauty sleep and retaliate. In that case, a Linux
installation would be disrupted by a call to 9-1-1.

That is about right. And yes, I'll agree with you about the fish.

Okay, so it sounds like that, even if one were comfortable opening up
and temporarily disconnecting the harddrive, the best you could do
without a monitor and a functioning eyeball is:
1. Disconnect hard drive.
2. Boot live media.
3. change the boot order from the live environment
4. shut down.
5. reconnect the hard drive.
6. boot the install media
And repeat this rigamarole every time you want to do a clean install
or boot a live environment to create/restor a back up of your system
partition or do other rescue tasks... and that's assuming the
temporary change to the boot order can survive a cold boot.
Anyone else feel like slapping whoever's responsible for the broken,
industry standard default with a fish?
