It might be possible to install with Debootstrap from a "live" system
booted from a USB drive.

I know this is possible with Debian, but I don't know whether it's true
of modern Ubuntu or its derivatives. A quick Web search didn't answer
the question; anyone who really wants to know should search further than
I did.
