Re: [orca-list] Do you want to change the default Orca keyboard layout to laptop ?

Hi,

I second (or third) the both capslock and insert proposal. I would
also suggest that the numpad flatreview bindings be available in
laptop mode as well. I personally use the colemak layout by default,
and using that with laptop layout requires rebinding a lot of keys, as
well as the Orca modifier since colemak uses the capslock as a
backspace. Perhaps the default layout could be a combined layout,
taking bindings from both the desktop and laptop layouts. This is the
layout used by speakup for example, and I find it useful to switch
between reading keys on the numpad and reading keys close to the home
row depending on what I'm doing.

Hello,
I would really like to see the ability to use both the Capslock key and insert key as the orca modifier no
matter which layout you are in. This way it would not really matter which layout was the default. NVDA on
windows lets you do this and it helps a lot. It also makes certain key combinations much easier to use if
you can use the Capslock key as well as the insert key, if you have one.

It's one thing to say that you will get a laptop with a number pad if
you get one at all. The problem comes in the fact that not only are
laptops with number pads much harder to find, but they tend to be far
more expensive than laptops without number pads. Seeing the message
that indicates using both the capslock and insert keys as Orca
modifiers by default however, I would have to agree with that option.
Then users who need to switch layouts will be able to do so easily, no
matter which layout is the default.
