Re: [orca-list] confusion in Dutch for bracket and brace

Hi Alex,

I use the default synthesizer. So I also checked with the others in the menu: espeak-generic and espeak-ng and the confusion is still there. I also notice Mary-generic but when I choose it I loose speech and need sighted assistant to restore to the default option.

Hello Milton,

Except if I'm wrong, you've not told us which speech synthesis you're using. Which speech synthesis are you using?

Best regards.

Hi,
Can someone tell me where to repot a confusion about the symbols 'bracket' and 'brace' in Dutch language?
Note: in English there are no problems, only in Dutch.
In Orca set the punctuation level to 'All'.
1. open a text editor for example gedit.
2. type the symbols [ { ] }
3. move with Arrow up and down to read the line.
Result: Orca reads 'left bracket', 'vierkante haak', 'right bracket', 'vierkante haak sluiten'. Expected result: Orca should read the symbols: 'rechte haak', linker accolade', 'rechte haak sluiten', 'rechter accolade'.

Another confusion is that reading by character with Arrow left or right Orca speaks the [ (left bracket) as 'linker haakje' in stead of 'vierkante haak'. Also the ] (right bracket) is spoken as 'rechter haakje' in stead of 'vierkante haak sluiten'.

Thanks in advance.
Milton
