Re: [orca-list] Orca and MuseScore/Qt-applications

What could solve it is the developers assigning a better accessible role to it. Perhaps they could ask on the Qt accessibility list?

Hey Joanie,

meanwhile I found an actual community package of Orca and could update it to version 3.34.1. MuseScore works for me with Orca, if I set the environment variable "QT_LINUX_ACCESSIBILITY_ALWAYS_ON=1" before the command to execute MuseScore. Yes, with the actual release of MuseScore Orca reads menu items or element inside the inpector.

If you or someone other is interested, with an actual development build (http://ftp.osuosl.org/pub/musescore-nightlies/linux/x86_64/ <http://ftp.osuosl.org/pub/musescore-nightlies/linux/x86_64/> (scroll to the end to the page and use the latest one) Orca reads also toolbox items and musical elements of the palette. It's not the same result as in the video above,  but a big step forward.

With my limited development skills, about the "filler"-issue, you mentioned: do you have any ideas, what could solve it (in case it isn't a Qt bug)?

Hey Peter.

I noticed that there were some things Orca wasn't reading in MuseScore,
and the reason why is that the objects had role of "filler". That's a
bogus role to apply to anything that a screen reader should present. I
don't know if that's a Qt bug or a MuseScore bug. But if that were
fixed, I think MuseScore would be more accessible in Linux.
