Re: [orca-list] Tips and tricks for Orca and Firefox

Hi Jeanette.

As I announced on the Orca list the other day, 3.36.4 should not be
used because I failed to cherry-pick something and it broke web access.
I fixed the issue the day after 3.36.4 was released and did a 3.36.5
release.

Sorry about that.

Based on the Youtube experience, I sometimes don't know when Orca is
in
which mode or not? How to navigate with cursor keys in particular
situations? Is there a way to get a structural overview of a window?
Can
I "disengage" with the web content and see all the sidebars, toolbars
and possible buttons in the Firefox window? As well as other open
tabs?

Some good practise on when to engage which Orca mode might also help
and
when to turn off automatic mode changing, possibly. I am referring to
browser mode, focus mode and object mode.

On a different level, the raction of the system is sometimes quite
sluggish, this is running on a 3 gigaHertz quad core desktop computer
with minimal desktop activity and no other background processes to
speak
of. Also sometimes the speech output will not reliably reflect what
is
going on. Braille isn't very helpful either, but that is to be
expected
and no real concern.

Sorry, if this rather widens the field than narrowing it down.

Best wishes,

Jeanette

Subject: [orca-list] Tips and tricks for Orca and Firefox

Hey hey,
after a long pause, I have just returned to using Orca (version
3.36.4) with
the Mate desktop environment (version 1.24).

To get back into this environment I bgan by reading the Orca
online manual
from the GNOME project website
https://help.gnome.org/users/orca/stable/

Testing the waters by using Firefox and the Youtube website, I
find the
experience not very satisfactory.

So I wonder if there is a tutorial for using Orca, especially
with Firefox,
using all the Orca features, keyboard shortcuts to optimise the
experience. I
have found a 25 minute Youtube introduction to Orca, but nothing
more helpful.

I am very familiar with Linux as such and have occasionally used
mac OS and
VoiceOver in the past, also mostly focusing on browsing the web,
since most of
my work is perfectly suited to the commandline.

If you have any good pointers to relevant documentattion,
tutorials or
specific command overviews, I'd be very grateful.

Best wishes and many thanks in advance,

Jeanette
