Re: [orca-list] Orca not indicating that a Firefox text entry is writable

Hello,

One other thing related to this I have just noticed while emailing via gmail in firefox.
It is now even more easier to jump back into message body of a message currently being composed in gmail when moving out of that entry field to check other stuff within the same conversation in gmail.
Before this the editor was not always focused because I was unable to type in my text after locating the body entry field of a composing message by using quick nav keys and switching into focus mode. Now this is all 100% reliable.
Yes once again I feel how big changes such seemingly minor tweaks can bring.
I am sure this will be usefull to more and more people.

Greetings

Peter

Hello,

Now I can finaly run this and I must say it's an awesome tweak. It works fine over here.
There are more custom editable elements within Riot. Hopefully I will be tweaking them by applying proper aria roles where it makes sense at some point however with these changes even those editable parts that have no usefull role are being reported. I guess such things can also be seen else where in the wild.

Thanks and greetings

Peter

Interesting, now it seems to work. Not sure what changed, but now e/E work as expected. Pretty sure I pulled changes after your first request to test and didn't see anything, other than Thunderbird's message entry area reported differently. Thanks!

Hey Nolan.

I'm guessing what you have created is something like a div with
contenteditable rather than an entry. I don't think Orca should lie to
you and call something which is not an entry an entry. But I agree that
Orca should indicate it's editable. I just made a change in master
causing Orca to announce "editable content" as the role. At least in my
testing (I don't have your code) that is what Orca says. Could you
please pull master and give it a try?

Thanks!

Hey, as usual, not sure whether this is an Orca or Firefox issue. I'm
making accessibility tweaks in the Riot Matrix web client, and notice
that when I use e/E to navigate between text entry fields with Orca
master, the message entry field just speaks "blank" rather than "entry".
Is this something wrong with the web markup? If so, then I can fix that.

Here's a debug log of me flipping through text entries in the app. There
are 3:

As an aside, this field has a placeholder, not a label. Not sure if that
has anything to do with why it isn't presented correctly, but I hope the
placeholder is read when using e/E to navigate.

Thanks!
