I have used Libreoffice writer and Calc. Both run rather well, though I 
don't use Calc very much, so if some lag has been introduced recently, I 
may not have caught it. Google docs does lag just a bit in Firefox, but 
it also speaks double, a known problem in Google's accessibility 
implementation, which I solve by running it in Chromium. I find that 
Libreoffice works better overall, unless I need to collaborate with 
someone using Google.
