I think I've got things now under control. Yes. I
do indeed use Gmail. I never thought of doing this on the Gmail server end;
that's an excellent idea, actually.

I go with what Didier suggests, but I think there are two other
options you may want to consider.
First, you can run a filter
at your email provider instead of your email client, such as Gmail. You
can go to gmail.com, assuming you use Gmail, and set up the filter there.
This way it will be applied no matter what client you end up
using.
Second, you can try marking those messages as junk and train
Thunderbird and Gmail to move those messages into your junk folder when it
sees them.
Hmm, makes me wonder if I know who you're talking about!
