Hi Nick,

No real help but I can tell you I have a similar issue with versions of Debian.

Ubuntu for some reason appears to work but Debian Jessie, testing and unstable appear broken.

I don't really have a clew but think it is possible that some gtk accessibility module or variable isn't 
correctly loaded or set.

I'd be very interested in anything you find as I'm guessing the solution is similar for Debian.
