If I had to guess, I suspect it's this bug:
https://bugs.documentfoundation.org/show_bug.cgi?id=71409

And note that the use of F2 and Escape described in that bug should not
be taken to mean "F2 causes it." That was just a way to reliably
reproduce it and illustrate the increasing event spewage clearly via the
listener I attached.
