Hi,
I've been using Mate for about a month now and haven't had any major issues with it. You need to make sure
you have Mate 1.8 or greater and the file manager is perfectly accessible. Panels still have issues but
nothing major. If you really want a file manager other than Mate's own, install something like pcmanf which
is a nice file manager.

Hi,
the main problem in Mate is that it’s file manager is very far from being decent in terms of accessibility.
Not to mention issues with applets in the top/bottom panel and so on…
Anyways, if you make sure to update the system the login manager in ubuntu-mate is accessible.
Vincenzo.

I am considering switching from Ubuntu Unity to Ubuntu mate edition.
Can Orca be enabled to speak at Login in Ubuntu mate?
I have looked at mate a litle while ago but two problems I had with it at the time were that I didn't get any
indication at login with either sound or Orca and the other problem was that I applied the latest updates and
it seemed to screw up my system altogether.
I am thinking of switching editions in the hope applications like Thunderbird play a little better memory
wise so I don't get this problem where speech hangs in apps like thunderbird or gpodder.
