Re: [orca-list] GDM3 login and shortcut keys existence

First, please let me ask an almost unrelated question. Squeeze is quiteold now.. If I'm not mistaken it is
based on the
2.6.32 kernel. Have yo added repositories or otherwise installed newer versions of packages than standard
squeeze fare?
I'm assuming you are using gnome as your desktop, but this would be gnome2.x I reckon. This would also mean
you are forced
to use rather old Orca releases, i.e. 3.1.9or perhaps 3.2xdesktop.
Back to your question now: You should be able to remove gdm and then use startx as you wish. This is nice if
you do a lot
on the commandline as you can work there with out the overhead of your graphical session running, and for
that matter you
can be booted and logged-in faster although differences while certainly not trivial would likely be between
pretty fast
and really fast on most systems. You just need to make sure the gnome-session line is uncommented in your
~/.xinitrc file.
If you are running something other than gnome as your desktop adjust and uncomment or add the needed line.
I think most desktop managers' log-in screens are not going to talk, so you should stick with what you have
or remove it
as mentioned and use startx.

Dear users and developers?
Does somebody of You know, if GDM3 uses shortcut keys, so i can type my
user name and password without Orca feetback? Or GDM3 is not supporting
TAB, SHIFT+TAB and arrow keys to do this task without sighted assistance?
I Am writing specifically about GDM3 login screen, which is available in
Debian Squeeze after appliing latest possible updates.
I like this distribution because of its stability and very little
crashes occurrence.
I know, that latest Debian Wheezi very probably support Orca with login
support.
IF this window manager is not accessible? Does somebody know how to
safely disable it so i could edit rc.local script to simply start X
server by adding
startx
command?
Or does somebody of us know about accessible login manager for Debian
Squeeze?
I think, that login managers are allocating some MB of ram so it would
be great to remove it at all and run xserver manually from The console
or by adding startx command inside some startup scripts.
Thank You very much for Yours advices.
