Re: [orca-list] I know this isn't the right place to bring this up, but how do you turn on speakup under gentu?

Do get speakup to work, you need to do two things.
Get espeak, with USE flags alsa, pulseaudio, and portaudio.
Make sure that you have the Speakup stagings drivers for the Speakup itself,
and the softsware synth.
Now, emerge espeakup.
Reboot, and log in. Once logged in, type:
#echo soft > /sys/accessibility/speakup/synth
Now type espeakup, and it should talk.
All this is in the thought that you are going to use software speech.

There is a speakup mailing list, I use speakup under gentoo myself, but in
gentoo you do a lot of things on your own.

As the subject reflects, I'm trying to figure out how to enable
speakup under gentu, as I'm trying to see if I can under a chromebook
to be able to gain shell access in developer mode so I ccan get an
ubuntu installation running along side chrome OS.
Also, I know this isn't the right place to talk about this, but I
figure someone can point me in the right direction.
