How does one get Mate to function with Orca? From the research, it
looks like it's a no-go, unless it's like XFCE and you have to
peacemeal it together.

Yes, there is a Linux Mint spin that runs MATE. That is the version that
will probably work with Orca. I was referring to the Linux Mint Debian
edition; I didn't know if it was using Cinnamon or MATE like the
standard distribution or if it had GNOME or something. Either way, MATE
will work with Orca for the most part, although there are still a few
rough edges. Cinnamon doesn't work at all with Orca as of about a month
ago. Hope this helps.
