Re: [orca-list] twitter app with orca

Hello,
RT and reply buttons do also have keyboard shortcuts.
When inside the list of tweets press the letter r to initiate a reply dialog. Press letter t two times in a quick succession to retweet a tweet which is currently focused in a grid view. It has other shortcut keys like standard ctrl+q to quit the app and ctrl+numbers on the upper row to switch views e.g. home, mentions, DM's etc.

Greetings

Peter

Disregard the question about the RT and reply buttons. I still can't find a couple things that are likely
there, but found
the basics with flat review now, so this is actually a very good alternative. It'll take orca newbies, or any
less
experienced screnreader users a bit of getting
used to perhaps, but still stable and responsive.

BTW, I'm using the arch corebird-git package.

Well, I'm hoping for good things when you get the time to finish your work.
For now I just istalled corebird, and it's quite nice, seems perfecty stabe and responsive as much as one can
tell in a
few minlutes, but I'm not yet seeing how to reply or rt. I've not done much experimentation, but if Peter or
anyoe can
give a couple tips it'd be nice as I'm still looking at other options.
Another menuless ap,is this going to be the way with everything gtk3.12 and higher, or does gnome still allow
folks to use
old school interfaces?

Hi,

I had tried to add Linux support to TW Blue, but I think I need fix some
issues before publish a test release. There are some things that don't work
as espected(speech dispatcher module is not created,, the keyboard handler
module needs modifications, and an issue using gstreamer) and I don't have
free time for now, but I will work in it in a short period, I think.

I'll give it a try then, but I was going to post to mention an interesting, but unorthodox twitter client
I"m just in the
process of testing now.
Hotot-gtk3 is its name. No menus of any kind that I can find. YOu tab across and press buttons, and this
opens different
viewsand this includes configuration screens, the auth screen, and tweet views.
I"m not sure just what all can be done yet, but mostly one can just tab across and hit enter on what one
wants. A few
buttons appear to need flat review to get att, e.g. I used it to start the auth process. I'm not 100% sure
this ws needed,
but it seems so. It's a bit confusing so far, but tabs and review keys are what's doing most of it for me, so
far arrows
do not seem to be part of the access mix.
Make sure the window is maximized. It did not seem to display so nicely in mate for me, even after I maxed
the window, but
in fluxbox I not only had better performance, but some things were automatically read that were not in mate.
Please, if anyone is interested, see what you can do with this program. It was voted best Linux twitter ap
last year I
think it was. I found it in the Arch AUR, but it's available for Ubuntu and other distros I think as well.
YOu'll need to
add a repo/google for it and it'll come up first page.
I also tried twitux but it doesn't even open for me now, although it did a couple of times in mate earlier. I
tried to
authenticate, but when I did what I though should work a inaccessible window opened. The main ap was
acdessible though,
menus were, and there was an empty table where tweets would show up once one was logged in. I'm not sure it
still works,
but the last update was fro around the time the last major api overhaul took place, so maybe, probably. It
never was very
flexible before when I tried it though.
Also I tried tyrs, but after authorizing it I got errors. there are other versions about, so may try them in
case the
python code has been fixed. It looked great if it would work, ncurses, fast and all, but nothing but errors
and it shut
itself down.
More later, going to try a couple more and keep playing with hotot. Even if it turns out good though, it is
probably no
longer being developed. Maybe someone will take it up as it seems to have a good reputation. PProably much
better for
sighted folk though.
At least it does not crash...lol.

Hello,
I am using corebird all the time. Most of its features are accessible. It is
possible to hear the tweets when moving up and down arrows in the grid.
By tabbing it is possible to reach links and tags and mentions embedded
inside tweets however names of them are not spoken as those are links inside
gtk labels.
Settings windows is also fully accessible, new tweets can be posted.
Unfortunatelly nick and tags completion is not yet accessible.
Anyway I can use it all the time without breaking. Previously mentioned
issues on this list such as inabillity to reconnect to twitter when
changing wifi networks is now is no longer an issue. Notifications are
working great and I am notified of new tweets and retweets with standard
gnome integrated notifications.

Greetings

Peter

I also had reasonable luck with Corebird. Basic Twitter participation
worked, but tabbing into tweets broke. Things also got a bit unstable
after a while. Might be worth a look and chat with the developers about
fixing the relatively minor access issues I encountered.

No, no twitter clients.
Gwibber can be used, or at least could with precise and vinux4, but it's
less than ideal.
Another solution that's not great if you get lots of tweets is to set up
twitter with thunderbird's native chat
functionality, and instantbird is similar but a chat only mozilla
application.
Many of us use ttytter. It is commandline, but can be run well from a
gnome or other terminal emulator and has some
extensions that work nicely in the gui. I use it in vt consoles myself
however. It takes a bit of getting used to as you
use two character codes to work with tweets, i.e. you have a tweet
labeled as e5. They go in order from a0 from the time
you log-in to a session. So to retweet you do something like
/rt e5
or to reply
/reply e5 Are you crazy? I'd never use anything but #ttytter!
Actually, I've set up t-bird, but seldom use it as tweets display in a
screenreader unfriendly grid and I get more than a
thousand a day. I also use bitlbee for twitter, but it doesn't do as
much as ttytter which can do almost anything that is
possible with twitter and similar services. Bitlbee lets you rt, reply
and a couple other things, but with ttytter you can
open urls directly, do easy searches and get tweets for a specific user,
etc.
All the pidgin pluggg-ins for twitter were broken last I tried, and I
even built some from source. One kind of almost
worked, at least let me log-in once, but then would not after restarting
pidgin, so I'm sure some one who studied the
twitter api mess could fix one or more of the plug-ins but guess no one
cared enough. On the other hand, it's not that
easy dealing with twitter I guess from what I hear.

Hello all,

How do I convert a LibreOffice Impress document to an easier to read
format
such as HTML, or read it within LibreOffice?

LibreOffice allows me to export it in various format, all designed for
presentations - HTML and even plain text aren't offered.

The default view in LibreOffice doesn't seem to give me access to
the content
under Orca 3.12.1 and LibreOffice 4.2.5.

To make Impress presentations accessible, it used to be necessary to
run the
Presenter Console, which is now, apparently, included in LibreOffice.
According to my Web searches, the presenter console appears if you
have a
second monitor attached to the machine, which is not feasible here.

Suggestions welcome. This should have a simple answer but I haven't
found it.
