accidentally forwarded this to a bunch of people and not the orca
list, so re-sending. It's about a couple ideas I've got for orca,
but I'm still trying to learn python.

I'll add one more thing. I'm trying to learn python, so I can help out
orca. I've already thought of an idea that may already exist. If an app
freezes, or stops responding, orca can wait a while, trying to
re-establish focus periodically, and after some sort of preset time,
maybe configurable, orca will speak and braille, lost focus. That way a
blind person isn't left sitting there going, wtf? Why is "app name here"
not doing anything, and why is orca not speaking? I'm also wondering
about making an orca script for the mate menu on the panel. Orca very
occasionally announces window when the menu is open, but all to often
says nothing. I thought about queerying pyatspi to make sure what we're
focused on is in fact a menu, and maybe looking at the menu for preset
items, accessories, education, and roll types, collapsable, expandable,
so we make sure we don't say main menu for any menu that just so happens
to have an item called accessories in it. Not at all sure how to go
about this though.

Just an idea.
Thanks

We should define exactly how long "a while" is, but yeah. I like
it. Wow, linux is starting to innovate really fast now. On

Hey all.

Here's another issue for which your feedback would be helpful.
This one
was filed against gnome-initial-setup. GNOME initial setup is
an upstream feature, and I know Fedora includes it. Not sure if
other distros do or not. Anyhoo, on to the bug:

Bug 735671 - Automatically start screen reader if the user is
idle for a while:
https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=735671

<begin quoted opening report> This came up when discussion
screen readers in #fedora-desktop. OS X starts the screen
reader in its initial setup if you just stare at it for a
while. We should do that too.

Perhaps also start by asking the user if they need assistance
and allowing them some easy ways to enable accessibility
features permanently, and giving them a short explanation on
how to use keyboard navigation to navigate the wizard. <end
quoted opening report>

As with the bug about the possible change in shortcut,
responses
can be
here and/or on the bug itself.

Thanks guys! --joanie
