Hi, I don't think gnome is any more accessible than Mate. If so it's not much. Mate is very usable, and the only stuff that doesn't work is minor, and will likely be fixed in the next release. Storm On Tue, Aug 26, 2014 at 08:09:39AM +0100, Juanjo Marín wrote:
Have you tried the GNOME Classic mode in GNOME 3 ? maybe this is a better option than using MATE. This way you can get a more traditional desktop and the better accessibility support of GNOME. It is for people who liked the way Gnome used to operate before gnome-shell was designed and implemented. Arguably, gnome is currently more accessible but Mate has made great progress once it was discovered that renaming a few things made things work much better than before. Yes, this is vague. If you would like more specific information, you can search the Orca mailing list archives at live.gnome.org.Yes, true that there are some things that still need polishing in Mate accessibility, but I certainly do not find any of the issues I've encountered anything close to show stoppers, and if you prefer a more traditional desktop Mate is certainly the best option as far as accessiblity goes, and a very good option for many in general. As I've mentioned in other posts it is also an option worth considering if your system is a bit slow with gnome3, but as I've also mentioned before I think, I'm impressed with what gnome can do on my less than blazing netbook. It seems to adapt as well as possible to having relatively limited system resources, at least as long as one does not multitask more than a bare minimum.
