Launchpad.net requires everyone who submits code to use secure email
and ssh with PGP keys. This dnimail email extension to Thunderbird
is easy to set up to do this. If set up properly, it will only kick
in on desired accounts when encrypting / signing email or replying
to encrypted / signed email. On 2/14/2013 12:59 PM, Christopher Chaltain wrote: I can't answer that. All I know is that I get the occasional message within my company that I need to use the Enigmail extension and my passcode/key to decrypt before I can read any of the message. I don't recall if I considered the content of the message to be particularly confidential or not. To be honest, I just don't bother worrying about whether someone includes an encrypted key in their message or not. I'm not a big fan of signatures in general, but I've found it's not worth complaining about. It's not like my opinion is going to keep someone from tacking on a silly or offensive signature at the bottom of their email. On 14/02/13 10:53, Alex Midence wrote:Ok, I get it. Your company requires it. Makes sense. Just what level of security does this provide? The contents of the message are not encrypted. The only thing that is encrypted is someone's key. Why wyould that need to be included in a message, say, about Libreoffice's bulleted points not being read well by Orca. I'm not normally that security conscious myself, but as with most things "need" is in the eye of the beholder. There are quite a few people who are much more security conscious than I am, and hey, more power to them! It's not for me to criticize. I'm sure there are things I worry over that others think are pretty trivial. On 14/02/13 10:15, Alex Midence wrote:Why does someone need this? Unless you are involved in some sort of important top secret work, why do you need an authentication key for your e-mails? I have never understood why ordinary people go to such extraordinary lengths. The only thing I have seen come of it is a long and incomprehensible string of jibberish affixed to the end of their e-mails, their very mundane e-mails, I might add. Enigmail package description: "GPG support for Thunderbird and Debian Icedove OpenPGP extension for Thunderbird.
