Re: [orca-list] Issues with the keys

Yes, the disabling of side bar from the view menu worked.
I can certainly see that the file browser (nautilus) is quite fast now.
Happy hacking.

Hi,

found some messages from attila where he described some solutions.
wonder if they do something to your install.

The nautilus issue:

Try you switch off the side pane in the view menu. My experiences if
side pane is turned off, Nautilus presenting more faster for example
the HOME folder content.
I reported this issue with following report:

The keybindings problem:

If anybody experiencing the described keybindings related issue,
looks following:
Existing your ~/.gconf/apps/metacity folder?
If yes, remove the ~/.gconf/apps/metacity folder and restart the system.
Before you doing this, what output seeing in terminal if you run
gnome-control-center keyboard command?
Some time Metacity or any importanter component possible doing wrong
gconf/gsettings data conversion. Usual when my machine happening
similar keybindings related problems in GNOME3 fallback session I
see following similar output result the gnome-control-center
keyboard command in terminal:
GConf Error: Type mismatch: Expected `string' got `list' for key

I reported this issue oldest time with Metacity package since march
15th, report link is following:

If you seeing similar output when you run gnome-control-center
keyboard command in terminal, click following direct link to mark

If you not stored important custom settings with Metacity related,
until this bug is not fixed, I suggest you add the startup manager a
script with always remove the .gconf/apps/metacity folder if this
folder are exist.

Jost copied those lines out of the messages.
Haven't tried that out myself.

Hi Simon,

Sure. You need to look at the Gnome Shell FAQ. It lists a number of hot
keys for navigating the shell. Although, you'll find most of them
familiar already.

For example, alt+control+tab switches between the areas of the screen
that are visible such as the desktop, top panel, and so on. Alt+tab
switches between windows, alt+f4 closes a window, alt+f1 or the super
key open the Dash, alt+f2 opens run, alt+control+left moves left one
workspace, alt+control+right moves right one workspace, etc. All pretty
standard stuff here.

However, as for it solving the issues with your keys I'm not so sure
about that. For a while it seemed to be alright, but after I rebooted
yesterday Gnome-Shell weirded out just like Unity 2D and I lost the
ability to close windows with alt+f4, alt+tab between windows, etc. So I
think there is something wrong with a shared component that handles
keyboard input for all Gnome based shells and apps.

Cheers!

Hi Thomas,

Maybe that would solve my issues with my keyboard problems?

to install gnome shell i guess i just need the gnome-shell package.

Are there some keyboard shurtcuts around for the start menu or other
places?

simon
