Yes, the disabling of side bar from the view menu worked.
I can certainly see that the file browser (nautilus) is quite fast now.
Happy hacking.

Hi Simon,
Sure. You need to look at the Gnome Shell FAQ. It lists a number of hot
keys for navigating the shell. Although, you'll find most of them
familiar already.
For example, alt+control+tab switches between the areas of the screen
that are visible such as the desktop, top panel, and so on. Alt+tab
switches between windows, alt+f4 closes a window, alt+f1 or the super
key open the Dash, alt+f2 opens run, alt+control+left moves left one
workspace, alt+control+right moves right one workspace, etc. All pretty
standard stuff here.
However, as for it solving the issues with your keys I'm not so sure
about that. For a while it seemed to be alright, but after I rebooted
yesterday Gnome-Shell weirded out just like Unity 2D and I lost the
ability to close windows with alt+f4, alt+tab between windows, etc. So I
think there is something wrong with a shared component that handles
keyboard input for all Gnome based shells and apps.
Cheers!

Hi Thomas,
Maybe that would solve my issues with my keyboard problems?

Are there some keyboard shurtcuts around for the start menu or other
places?

simon
