Hi Dave,
Yeah, I here you there. That's why I am now running gnome-shell full
time. I noticed the minute I switched from Unity 2D to gnome-shell the
system seemed to be a lot more stable. At least the shell isn't
constantly crashing left and right like Unity. I definitely couldn't
recommend 12.04 as a long term stable release yet, because its frankly
too unstable to be labeled LTS. Its pretty darn bad when a person has to
install and use a different shell just to make the OS work half way
decently. I agree it would be so much better if we could get either
gnome-shell or gnome-classic by default instead of Unity 2D as both of
those seem at least reasonably stable for a VI user.
