Re: [orca-list] Issues with the keys

Hi Thomas,

Maybe that would solve my issues with my keyboard problems?

to install gnome shell i guess i just need the gnome-shell package.

Are there some keyboard shurtcuts around for the start menu or other places?

greetings,
simon

Hi Dave,

Yeah, I here you there. That's why I am now running gnome-shell full time. I noticed the minute I switched from Unity 2D to gnome-shell the system seemed to be a lot more stable. At least the shell isn't constantly crashing left and right like Unity. I definitely couldn't recommend 12.04 as a long term stable release yet, because its frankly too unstable to be labeled LTS. Its pretty darn bad when a person has to install and use a different shell just to make the OS work half way decently. I agree it would be so much better if we could get either gnome-shell or gnome-classic by default instead of Unity 2D as both of those seem at least reasonably stable for a VI user.

I know that Ubuntu 12.04 is designated long-term stable, but, it seems anything but, at least, where the accessibility is concerned. I can't recommend it in its default state. First off, I had to update the accessibility stack, from proposed updates, just to get Orca's app-specific scripts to load as they should. Then, there's Unity 2d, with its flakiness. Too bad Gnome Classic isn't the default when you choose an accessible setup.
