Hi,
There is TTYtter, it's for the command line/terminal. I use it as my full time Twitter client. It is available from:
http://floodgap.com/software/ttytter
If you try and decide you like it, there are a wide variety of extensions for it, and I have put together a pack of the ones I have found to be most useful, as well as a .ttytterrc generator:

There is a twitter mode for Emacs, you may want to check that out. Don't
have a twitter account myself, I mainly use Identi.ca via
identica-mode in Emacs, which is supposed to be pretty similar to
twitter-mode.
