I tried this once with Fedora on my current (old) computer, but Orca was

I'm not sure what buggy in full screen mode means or how long ago you
tried this, but both Gnome and Orca have been moving targets as of late,
so I wouldn't rule out Fedora for this reason.
I know that recent hardware may not be recognised by the distro (no
driver available yet). I also know that I have to avoid 3D graphic cards.
Is that true that you have to avoid 3D graphics cards? I don't think
that's the case, but you may choose to run a desktop, like Unity 2D,
that doesn't take advantage of the 3D graphics card.
Also, quite a few of the larger laptop vendors are supporting Linux and
either porting their own drivers to Linux or working with a company like
Canonical to certify Ubuntu on their systems. I think someone else has
already pointed you to the desktop certification page for Ubuntu. I know
when I bought my Asus a year ago, it was brand spanking new. It worked
out of the box, but I did find some useful information on the web to get
things working like USB 3.0 and suspend/hibernate. I'm not saying you
should just go out and buy a new laptop, but I'd suggest doing your
research and maybe asking on this or other lists about anyone's
experiences with certain brands and models.
