Re: [orca-list] Announce copy to clipboard [was "Re: Some bugs with perhaps possible fixing in master branch"]

For the record, I just tried the control c feature right before
sending this e-mail and here are the results with Jfw 11.0.1476:

When no text is selected, Control c results in a "Nothing selected" message.
The familiar "Copied selection to clipboard" only works when you
actually select some text to be copied. So, there's more there than
just a script that is triggered when the key combination is pressd.
At the very least, there is some conditional code that monitors the
same event sighted people see as the text being highlighted and
depending on what has happened, it outputs a different message. This
functionality is also present in control x which is the cut text key
stroke. "Nothing selected" is output when no text has been
highlighted and "Cut selection to clipboard" is output when there is
some text selected. Control V tells you that the text is pasted.
Delete key is a bit odd because it just says "space" instead of, as
one would expect, "selection deleted."

Very interesting,

Hi,

Fair enough. I was just merely pointing out that sighted users don't
get any kind of feedback when pressing control+c, and that having Orca
report "copied to clipboard" is a convenience rather than being
absolutely necessary. As for myself I've gotten use to not having it,
but wouldn't complain if said feature was added. Although, I'll freely
admit at first it use to irritate
me until I got use to not having the screen reader speak messages
after every keystroke like Jaws or Window-Eyes does.

Cheers!

For my part, I'd like at least the option of hearing what my keystrokes
do,
including copying to or pasting from the clipboard. If sighted users
don't
get that feedback, there may be a do-as-they-do argument not to have it,
but
I still might not be persuaded. I'd always, always rather be annoyed by
getting hit with too much information than by not having enough, though
if
and only if that is the single, stark choice. :-)
